(Drinking Trends) Gin and tea share a long and intertwined history. Indeed the idea of a tea-infused gin is nothing new. Jindea Single Estate Tea Gin is a bit special though. It takes first flush Darjeeling and places it right at the heart of the product. Indeed a quick glance at the side of the bottle shows that the Darjeeling is the second most prominent botanical after juniper berry. Combined with cardamon, citrus zest, and coriander seed, the resulting gin is wonderfully bright and citrus forward. This is balanced by an intriguing florality, notes of stone fruit and a hint of tannins. Altogether a gin that stands out from the rest in an increasingly over-saturated market.

Made from single estate First Flush Darjeeling Tea, the springtime harvest which produces a delicate and floral Himalayan black tea, known to tea-lovers as the ‘Champagne of Tea’.

 

The origins of Jindea can be traced back to colonial India. Gin and tea were the liquid staples of the Raj, and the great-grandfather of founder Matthew Dakers was stationed in the hill stations of southern India. Drawing on this family heritage, and his years of experience as a brand ambassador (Absolut Vodka and Chartreuse), Matthew has teamed up with the renowned French distillers Boudier to produce a single pot still distillationthat works extremely well in highballs and cocktails alike. OF course it goes without saying that it also makes a cracking G&T!

With bars such as The Savoy, London Cocktail Club, and Peg + Patriot already taking Jindea to heart, this fresh new take on Gin and Tea looks set to be a big hit.
